For the past couple of years, I have made it a point to avoid the beauty section at any mall just because I feel like I get so sucked in by the “new” products and always end up walking away with things that I had no intention of getting (I have low beauty EQ LOL) – but a couple of days ago, my sister said she wanted to check out the Metro Department Store in Alabang to see what they had and maybe do a bit of Christmas shopping. I haven’t really explored that mall yet – I think in the last 6 years, I only visited it twice and both times were to renew my passport (there’s a DFA office at the 4th floor) – so I thought, why not?
I am happy I did because I saw that they stocked TenTen nail polishes! I thought these were online-only so I was pretty chuffed when I saw that they had a lot of colors available at Metro. I bought a red shade from them a while ago through BeautyMNL (D13 Vampire Red) and I really liked it so I was curious if the other shades would perform as well as the one I had.
What the brand claims:
5-Free. Quick dry. European pigments and brush technology.
5Safe for kids and pregnant moms. Anti-yellow. Chip resistant.
I ended up getting the Surf and Sand Collection which comes with 3 beautiful neutral shades. I was so excited to try these that I ended up painting my nails (1 for each color haha) as soon as I got home so I can test it and see how it fares.
I am happy to report that the formula is very easy to work with. More often than not, I find that with lighter neutrals, it is patchy when applied but I didn’t experience that with these three. The shade S48 (Gray) was a breeze to apply, while the S49 (Pebble Gray) and S6 (Peach) took a bit more concentration but still fairly easy compared to other brands. It dried quickly and retained its beautiful shine too!
As for the colors, they may look similar but are very different once on the nails. S48 Gray is the darkest of the three and I think one that can work for any season, S49 Pebble Gray is a beautiful everyday shade and S6 Peach is a very pretty dainty color and the warmest of the three.
Now here is where these nail polishes shine for me. I tested these out on bare nails (aka no base coat) and also didn’t put a top coat on them because I wanted to see how long it will last before it starts to chip. I did two coats for each color and did what I would usually do at any given day – which if you follow me on InstaStories, you would see that I am in the kitchen a lot because I am in charge of preparing my family’s breakfast and lunch baons – and all that cooking means I was my hands a lot. I even gave my dog a bath with these on and I was so surprised that by the end of day 3, I had very minimal chipping on the edges – nothing too crazy that would make my nails look like “Nail Art” (what my sister likes to call the chipped nail polish lewk). It was only by Day 5 that I saw a pretty significant chipping that made me want to remove them. Yep, it lasted 5 days – which is quite impressive especially since I didn’t have a base coat or a top coat to seal the product in. The packaging is very nice too – simple, sleek and elegant.
As for the price, these are more expensive than our local nail polish brands at PhpPhp285 for the set (making each nail polish cost Php95), but I tell you, it is worth every penny. I love that the formula is easy to apply, and lasts a reasonable amount of time. Usually nail polishes only last 3 days on me so the extra 2 days is a quite a significant difference! Oh, and did I mention that this is 5-free too? That means it doesn’t have Formaldehyde, Toulene, DBP, Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor – very bad ingredients that causes a multitude of issues!
I say these nail polishes are definitely worth looking into. They also sell individuals with the price ranging between Php100 to Php150 and they have loads of colors too. You can check them out at The Park Shang, Metro Department Stores, Landmark Department Stores and at www.NipponEsthetic.com.
Oh, and on December 15 2017, they are having a site-wide 10% off on everything sale! This is the perfect time to stock up if you love nail polishes or if you have a beauty-obsessed friend who you know will go gaga over these. You get really good products at a reasonable price PLUS a discount – now who can say no to that?
