Subscription boxes were all the rage a few years ago and I have always wanted to try them but I just couldn’t find one that felt right. I put it on the back burner for a while, but when I saw that Saladbox was doing a Benefit collaboration for the month of February, I thought that it was the perfect time to try the program. I’ve seen previous Benefit x Saladbox boxes and were always impressed with the contents so I thought why not!?
I placed my order through their website around the first week of February, but had some concerns with my order because I wasn’t asked to sign up and was instead directed to Paypal to pay – which I did without realizing that I didn’t have an account with them LOL. Being the crazy, low EQ person that I am, I emailed Saladbox to confirm if they received my payment, asked how I will be getting the sample select emails and some other account concerns. They were very responsive and helpful and I was pretty impressed by that! I was instructed to email their order management team and they responded to me within 24 hours. Great response, Team Saladbox – although I would suggest if you are subscribing to them to make sure you create an account first and then process your payment to avoid any hassle and issue.
For this month, they had two different boxes to choose from. I was hoping they’d have one that had a mascara and I was so happy that Box B had a They’re Real mascara included in the set. This was the one item that I was most excited to receive because I know Benefit mascaras are good but I can never justifying full price for it since I’d end up throwing it away in a few months LOL #kuripot
They also included Benefit’s new lip product, the They’re Real Double The Lip which is meant to be a lip liner and lipstick in one. The idea is you can just swipe this on, no need to apply lip liner and still get that fuller lip effect. I am not sure how I feel about this “innovation” but I do love the formula and the shade that I got which was Lusty Rose. It feels very comfortable on the lips and lasts at least 3 hours on me (without eating and drinking).
The box also came with a deluxe size Professional Pore Minimizing Make Up and to be honest, I was a little confused by this. At first I thought it was a primer, but after reading the info on the box, I believe this is a lightweight tinted base that minimizes pores and has light but buildable coverage. I have not used it as of this writing but I look forward to trying it!
I also received a Goof Proof Brow Pencil Mini and to be honest, when I saw it, I was disappointed. The product is about 0.25cm long and will run out so fast. The pencil itself is great, the shade I got (shade #3) is a great color match for me but I was just very disappointed by how small it is especially since Saladbox used it as one of their come-ons. I held the pencil up to the light and saw that it had more product inside – about 0.75cm more so you can try and get this out and maximize your sample – although for the life of me I don’t know how you’ll get it out and keep it at the length you want haha! I love me my mini sized products but this was a little too mini for me!
The last product is a sample sachet of the Professional Matte Rescue. I am a fan of the original Professional primer so I was hoping they’d include a bigger-sized sample of this so I was a bit let down when I saw that it was only 1 sachet. I have not used this yet but I look forward to testing it out.
Based on this box, I do think that Saladbox gives you good value for money – even though I hoped some of the items included were bigger (LOL – it’s a case of always wanting more). I paid Php1800.00 for a 3-month subscription (that’s their shortest subscription period BTW) – that comes out to Php500/box/month + Php100 shipping per month. Not bad considering you get to try 5 products from a premium brand. The big winners for me from this box are the They’re Real Mascara and They’re Real Double the Lip. I think the mascara size is perfect since I change my mascara every 3 months – not a lot of wastage and is just enough to get me going until I have to change it up. The lipstick’s formula is a winner for me. It is very easy to wear and the color is beautiful!
If you are subscribed to Saladbox, I would love to hear your thoughts! I have 2 more boxes coming in – one for March and another for April – and I cannot wait to see if it’s worth getting a 12-month subscription! 😉
