[REVIEW] So Matte Lip and Cheek Therapy by Sooper Beaute

When matte liquid lipsticks first came out, I wasn’t overly excited over it. I was not a fan of matte lipsticks – to be honest, I still prefer satin over mattes – but I have seen the beauty and the benefits of using matte liquid lipsticks. They are long-wearing, very pigmented and the good ones actually don’t feel too drying. Case in point, these So Matte Lip and Cheek Therapy goodies from Sooper Beaute.

The Packaging:

The packaging is very similar to most liquid lipsticks. The product is housed in a plastic tube with a doe foot applicator. The doe foot applicator is soft and functions very well in distributing the product evenly. I also like that the stem is not too short but not too long either so it’s very easy to use.

The Products:

I have 9 shades – 3 nudes, 3 pinks and 3 reds. Just by looking at these lipsticks in the tube, I picked 3 favorites – one from each color family: Solar, Crux and Leo. Upon swatching though, I saw how beautiful all the colors are and how well suited it is for Filipina/Morena skin. These are very creamy and dries fairly quickly to a full-on matte. It’s also cool that they put a sticker with the manufacturing and expiration dates so it’s easier to keep track as to whether you can still use it or need to toss it already.

The Scent:

I have to admit, the smell is a little odd – it has a faint floral smell tinged with a bit of clay but it’s not too noticeable once it is on the lips. I guess that’s because they use natural ingredients and do not add a lot of artificial fragrances.

The Price:

Priced at Php280.00, these are quite affordable compared to a lot of matte liquid lipsticks out there. The product weight is not listed on the tube so I can’t do a full price-product comparison but I do think you get a decent amount of product for the price.

The Test:

I have been using these non-stop for the last couple of weeks and I really like it. These apply really easily, sinks into the lips instead of just sitting on top and sets fairly quickly. I did not encounter pieces flaking off and the shades are extremely pigmented. I tried applying one thin layer, let it dry and then applied another layer and I found that the darker red shades did not layer very well; it started to look a bit patchy but if you just do one layer, I do not think you will run into any issues. The pink shades (Solar, Crux, Carina, Ara) were a beautiful surprise – I loved all the pinks and I had zero problems with these. As for the nudes (Astra, Canopus) and the vibrant red (Galaxy), these were okay.

It’s so hard because I love all the colors, but if I had to rate it from top to bottom, I would say Carina – Crux – Solar – Ara – Aries – Leo – Galaxy – Astra – Canopus but this is just based on the color. I found all of them fairly easy to work with, comfortable, pigmented and long lasting. I found the formula to be pretty consistent on all 9 shades. I included a couple of photos of me wearing some of the shades (Astra, Ara and Leo) so you can see it in action.

On the cheeks, they were okay but you have to work fairly quick to blend this out because it does dry into a solid matte finish. I don’t love using this on my cheeks as much as on my lips but in a pinch, you can definitely use it as a blusher as well.

The Final Verdict:

For the price you pay, you get a really good product. The color lasts very well on the lips – unless I eat something greasy or wet (like Ramen or dumplings… yum). These were very comfortable as well and not as drying as some other liquid lipsticks I’ve tried. The only thing that you can consider a con, I guess, is the scent but to be honest I don’t think it’s such a big deal. All in all a good product especially because it’s 100% locally-made with natural ingredients.

If I can only suggest 1 shade for every color family, I would pick Carina for the pinks, Astra for the nudes and Aries for the reds.
