New Discoveries and First Impressions Ep.1

I love trying new beauty products. There’s just something about finding an amazing product that works wonders for your skin, makes the make up process more enjoyable and/or takes your look to a whole new level. I have been testing out a few new things these past few weeks so I thought I’d share with you my first impressions and initial thoughts on the products.

Chosungah Core Black Dazzling Fixer Pact

I first read about this Korean face powder on a make up Facebook Group and so many people were raving about it. I love the effect on my skin whenever I use the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders and someone mentioned that the Chosungah Core Black Dazzling Fixer Pact was similar (not a dupe, okay?) and that it gave their skin a very pretty glow, so I was excited to give this a try.

Initial Thoughts and First Impressions:
The packaging is really nice, it’s made of plastic but not does not feel cheap. The powder has a clear plastic/acrylic cover which is a nice touch. I’ve been using this for a few weeks now as a finishing powder and I really like how it gives your skin a nice, healthy glow. On the pan, the powder has bits of tiny glitter but I find that it doesn’t transfer to the face so you don’t have to worry that you’ll look like a disco ball. I liked it so much that I included it in my #NSChristmas2016 giveaway pile! (If you haven’t joined the giveaway yet, why not???!!! Jeffrey Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Watermelon Soda

I am very good friends with one of the ladies who owns Cosmétique Manila and she gave me this so I could try Jeffree Star’s lipstick line. She absolutely loves this brand for their liquid lipsticks and knowing how much of a beauty fiend I am, she kindly gave me this one to try. Watermelon Soda is part of the summer collection so the packaging and the scent is different from his regular line.

Initial Thoughts and First Impressions:
The packaging is very pretty – I like how the yellow pops against the pink! It has a bit of heft to it and doesn’t feel cheap at all.  The applicator has a uniquely shaped/curved doe-foot applicator that makes it easy to apply and spread the product. It smells amazing – it reminds me of candy that I used to eat back in Grade School (don’t remember the name of it though). The formula is very easy to work with, applies like a dream and is highly pigmented!

Laneige Water Bank Gel Cream EX

I’ve been wanting to try Laneige and I finally took the plunge when I saw that they had a Gel Cream moisturizer. I can’t bear to wear a thick, creamy moisturizer in the morning because of the insane Manila heat and for that reason, I prefer gel over cream moisturizers.  I purchased a small sampler (10ml) of the Water Bank Gel Cream EX to see if I would like it more than my favorite moisturizer, the Pond’s Dewy Rose Gel.

Initial Thoughts and First Impressions:
The Water Bank Gel Cream EX smells amazing. It feels very light on the skin and works as a good base for make up. It doesn’t make me oily, and it alleviates dryness but I don’t find this better than the Dewy Rose Gel. It’s good, but not wow for me.

Essence I <3 Colour Intensifying Eyeshadow Base

I have been meaning to get this for a while now because I’ve read many great reviews about this  and I finally got around to it when my sister and I went to one of the bigger SM malls a few weekends ago. Small SM Malls have very minimal selection of beauty brands and beauty counters (I’m looking at you, SM BF) so I had to go to a bigger SM mall to get my hands on this.

Initial Thoughts and First Impressions:
I was hoping it would be good but was trying to manage my expectations given the price and I was very pleasantly surprised! The product is easy to apply, blends evenly, made my eyeshadow more vibrant and crease-free! At Php249.00, it’s definitely a good drugstore/affordable beauty find that you need to get your hands on (like right now) especially if you like wearing eye make up often!

LA Girl PRO Conceal HD Correctors in Peach and Orange

The Orange corrector is one that I have been hearing so many amazing things about and seeing so many beauty enthusiasts rave about online. I could never get my hands on it because it was always out of stock but I was finally able to find it online. I also got the Peach corrector because I’ve been looking for a cheaper alternative to the one I have from Bobbi Brown. I got one of the PRO Conceal HD Concealers before and I wasn’t impressed – based on my experience, the claim that it could be a dupe for the MAC Pro Longwear was not true – so I wasn’t really expecting much from the correctors.

Initial Thoughts and First Impressions:
I have been using these for a few weeks now and I much prefer the peach and use that more often. It brightens and neutralizes the darkness on my undereye area, and is great to use everyday. The orange is more heavy duty, I think, and great for events but I find that I don’t really need it for day to day. Both are decent correctors – easy to blend and settles really nicely on the skin but the packaging is horrible. I absolutely hate the packaging and wish it came without the brush applicator.

So that’s that for now! I think I am going to make this a regular “series” on my blog where I show you new things that I’ve been using and my initial thoughts on them instead of doing haul posts. What do you think?

It is! I love the marble effect on the powder – makes me not want to touch it because it’s too pretty haha! I remember that about the Essence Eyeshadow Base – it used to be called the I Love (love = heart lol) Stage eyeshadow base! :)
