Matte lipsticks have been getting a lot of love recently. So many beauty brands have come out with their versions of matte lipsticks and matte liquid lipsticks that it’s hard to keep up! I normally shy away from matte and retro-matte formulas because I prefer pigmented lipsticks without the dry texture on my lips so I was curious to see how these Sooper Beaute So Matte Lipsticks would perform given that these are enriched with moisturizing ingredients such as Grapeseed Oil, Shea Butter and Vitamin E.

I received a trio with the shades Berry Exotic, Norma and Andromeda in a cute pop art-y box. The packaging is chic – I like that they used a combination of pearl white and gold. The cover clicks shut so you don’t have to worry about your lipstick accidentally opening up in your bag. As for the smell, it does have a slight waxy smell, but it’s not noticeable once it is on the lips.
Berry Exotic – A pretty vibrant pink shade. I was the least excited about this shade, mostly because I don’t wear hot pink lipstick that often but this was the easiest to apply out of the three. Great to wear when you have minimal make up as it makes you look fresh and youthful!
Andromeda – A deep berry plum. This was the shade I was most excited about because I love deep plum-berry lipsticks. Unfortunately, the color was a little patchy and it took a lot of pressure to get the color on my lips.
Norma – A pretty peachy pink nude. Nudes often wash me out but this one doesn’t! Perfect to wear with a dark smoky eye.
On me, these look like true mattes which is surprising beacause it has Shea Butter and Gapeseed Oil! Application-wise, these weren’t very easy to work with but that is actually quite typical of matte lipsticks so I kind of expected that. Based on the ones that I received, the formula is not consistent – Andromeda was a little patchy, Berry Exotic was good all throughout and Norma is somewhere in between the two. Pigmentation is great, even for Andromeda even though it was a bit more challenging to work with. As for the texture, these are not as drying as my other matte lipsticks and are very comfortable to wear. I have normal to dry lips and these did not crack or flake on me. I suggest that you apply a lip balm before application though because I found that when I did that, it was easier to apply the lipstick and it didn’t tug on my lips compared to when I applied it on bare lips. If you are concerned about the formula not being matte anymore, blot the lip balm with tissue before you put the lipstick on.
Sooper Beaute currently has a couple of themed trios – Boss Lady (comes with a reddish brown, a red and a mauve shade), All Red-dy for You (contains three different shades of red), MLBDB or My Lips But Definitely Better (has different shades of nude), Pinky Promise (a set of 3 pretty pinks) and Retro Chic (has a peachy pink, a brownish red and a deep burgundy). The sets are currently available on their website, on their Lazada and on Shopee stores. Priced at Php860 for 3 lipsticks (down from the original price of Php1290), these come out at about Php287 each – which is an amazing deal considering that these normally sell for Php430 a pop.
You can also create your own trio if you drop by their outlets at SM North Edsa – 2F City Center (infront of Kangaroo Jack) , Glorietta 3- Ground floor (inside Cinderella) , Alabang Town Center – upper ground level Fashion Ave (inside Brandtrunk) , Powerplant Mall – ground floor (inside POP by Retail Lab) , Ishop 360- Espana (infront of UST) and Abreeza Mall Davao – 3F Cube Bazaar (inside Glowee Skincare Shop). Same price (Php860), except that you have a choice which shades to get!
