I’ve always loved the look of long manicured nails. I guess that’s because I always say my mom and my older sister get their nails done often – and maybe because I grew up in the 90’s and I watched Filipino movies where the ladies were always made up, fashionable and well-manicured. There is one specific scene from a movie with Carmi Martin – I believe she was a secretary and there was one scene where she was painting her nails. Haha I remember cutting nail-shaped paper and taping them on my fingers!!! But, I’ve never been blessed with strong nails. It’s soft, almost translucent and always managed to break just as it was growing to a decent length. I’ve tried everything from using nail creams, rubbing garlic on my nails, trying to get out of dishwashing duty LOL! That is, until now…
A month and a half ago, I started noticing that my nails were growing faster, it wasn’t as translucent as before and it felt so much stronger. My nails feel like they are becoming healthier – I mean it’s still a bit yellow, but I guess my nails were never white-white – and I thought I’d share a few things I’ve been doing to help my nails grow.
Applying a nail hardener every night before going to bed.
My mom got this early this year and I stole it hahaha! I have been applying it on my nails every night before going to bed, and my nails feel stronger and my cuticles are a lot less dry when I wake up in the morning. I am not sure where you can get this though, because she got it from a salon, but I think other nail hardener brands will do the trick as well.
Take my vitamins daily.
Drink Fruit-Vegetable Smoothies.
I love veggies, so it’s never been a problem for me to consume, but making it into a smoothie is so much more convenient and actually quite enjoyable. Right now, I do an Arugula-Carrot-Cucumber-Celery-Apple-Dalandan-Pineapple-Turmeric-Honey mix and I have been loving it! It sounds weird, I know, but trust me when I say it’s pretty good!
Always use a base coat when applying nail polish and let your nails breathe every once in a while.
I always give my nails time to breathe after I remove my nail polish – I think in as much as we need a make up break, our nails also need a polish break!
I hope I can find a natural way to make my nails whiter, but I am happy with the progress for now. I mean I’d take whatever I can given that my nails were such a sorry state before hahaha! If you suffer from soft and brittle nails, try these simple tips and let me know if it works for you!
