When the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette first came out, I – like so many beauty lovers all over the world – was all over it. It was super hyped, and I remember stalking local online stores to see if they would stock it and how much it would be. I was obsessed! After a while though, the interest waned – mostly because of the mixed reviews I read online and I started to question whether I really needed it or if it was a case of “getting caught up in hyped products” (which I have to admit happens to me more often than not lol). In the end, I decided to skip it but I still wanted to try finishing powders that give off a nice, subtle glow.
Fast forward to late last year – sometime around August if I remember correctly – one of my go-to online Instagram beauty stores BeautyShopPH posted a photo of the Makeup Revolution Radiance Radiant Lights Palette. On the photo, the powders looked VERY similar to the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette but was a fraction of the cost so I decided to go for it.
Now you may be wondering why it took me over a year to write about it. Well to be honest, I forgot that I even had this palette, but a few weeks ago, I had a client who requested for an elegant, fresh and glowy make up look inspired by Korean celebrities and this palette performed beautifully. I have since incorporated the Makeup Revolution Radiance Radiant Lights Palette to my daily make up routine and I thought, hey, it’s still available, people can still get a hold of it, so why not? Better late than never, right?
The palette comes with three illuminating powders – Breathe, Exhale and Glow. Funnily enough, the shade names are not listed on the actual palette (not even on the protective plastic) so for the sake of this review, we’ll say Breathe is the left most shade, Exhale is the middle shade and Glow is the rightmost shade.
Breathe is a pretty pale rose-gold powder. It is very fine and blends beautifully on to the skin – I love that Breathe gives me a nice, dewy finish without making it look like I got doused with water or even worse, make me look sweaty like I just ran a 100-meter dash HAHA. I mean, there is a fine line between looking dewy and looking wet. Definitely my favorite out of the three.
Exhale is a silvery shimmer shade with a cool pink undertone. I don’t love this as much as a finishing powder because it has shimmer particles, but works really nicely as a subtle highlighter. It veers slightly on the frosty side so I think it would suit pale skinned ladies more than morenas and dark skinned beauties.
Glow is the warmest of the three and is a very nice gold that works really well for morena skin. I thought I wouldn’t like this as much as the other two, but I surprisingly like this a lot! It’s perfect to use as an everyday bronzer and can work as a golden highlighter for ladies with a darker skin tone. Similar to Breathe, the texture is super fine and blends wonderfully on to the skin.
If I were to rank all three, my favorite is Breathe, then Glow then Exhale.
The packaging is not very exciting but I don’t mind that – in fact, I love that they decided to go the minimalist route as opposed to doing something cheap and kitschy. It’s made of sturdy plastic, and it comes with a big mirror which I think is very handy especially for traveling.
All things considered, this is a great alternative to the Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette. I don’t think it’s an exact dupe but it’s pretty similar, and the price difference (Php700 for the Radiance Radiant Lights Palette vs. the Php3000++ for the HG Ambient Lighting Palette) makes it a great contender!
