Here’s the thing, I love seeing my nails all done and clean and pretty. It frustrates me so much that I have very brittle nails. It used to be that I couldn’t grow my nails. I was always so envious of my big sister’s french-tipped nails (she was 18, I was around 12) and I would try to convince my mom to let me get my nails done too. Since I was too young, she didn’t allow it so I had to learn how to do it myself (ha ha ha)!
Anyway, on to the point of this post LOL. While I do like getting my nails done at the nail salon, I find that there are instances where you just don’t have time or it’s way too late to go to a nail salon – like at midnight before a date or a meeting or you decide it’s an absolute must at 2AM to paint your nails black. Ha ha ha. It took me a while to learn how to do it properly but I can do it without any problems (AKA ouchies) now.
These are the tools I use whenever I do my nails myself.
I use a nail cutter, nail pusher and nail nipper. Always make sure that your tools are sharpened and sanitized to avoid any ouchies and infections. I also use a cuticle remover, a nail file and a nail buffer. In the past, I would end here, but I find that using a cuticle oil, a nail oil and petroleum jelly for my fingers help a log in growing longer, healthier nails.
I never try to get ingrown nails or skin, I used to when I was younger but I had a very very very bad infection a few years ago and since then, I haven’t tried. Too scared to try, really ha ha ha!
I think as girls, we should all know how to clean our nails that we don’t have to rely so much on nail technicians and nail salons. Next time you get your nails done, observe your technician and learn how to do even just the basics. It will help you whenever you are in a rush and can’t go to a nail salon and save you a whole lot of money.
To end, I leave you with the most recent photo I took of my nails, painted with one of my favorite colours ever — blood red!
