I purchased my first Chanel lipstick a few months ago, along with the Estee Lauder Pure Color Eyeshadow in Sugar Biscuit from the same lady who had a number of brand new make up items that she wanted to let go of. I was initially hesitant to do so since I haven’t tried the Rouge Coco Shine line, plus the color was a little on the brown side, but she was selling it for about half the original price, so I decided to bite the bullet and get the Rouge Coco Shine Lipstick in the shade Deauville.
First off, the packaging. One of the things that you pay for when you purchase premium products is the packaging. Deauville is housed in the classic black case-gold tube combo for all Rouge Coco lipsticks. It feels very sturdy and solid and you can definitely feel the “premium-ness” of it.
Deauville is a sheer, natural mauve-brown shade with a tiny hint of pink. It looks quite unappealing on the tube – which was one of the reasons I was hesitant to purchase this in the first place – but I was pleasantly surprised by how pretty this was. It has a slight shimmer, but nothing too obnoxious. It’s a pretty universal shade, I think. It has a very faint floral smell that is barely noticeable – I am just a weirdo and I like smelling lipsticks. LOL.
The Rouge Coco Shine line is quite like a lip butter or a tinted lip balm. It’s quite sheer, but moisturizing and is perfect for everyday. A little pricey for an everyday sheer lipstick, for sure, but I would much rather spend on something that I will use regularly rather than something that I would use once in a blue moon. Better bang for the buck, don’t you think? Longevity-wise, the Rouge Coco Shine in the shade Deauville doesn’t last very long on the lips, but it leaves a nice, natural looking stain.
If you are looking for a “wham bam” kind of lipstick, this is definitely not it! If you want pigment and longevity, you are better off trying the Rouge Allures, but if you are after something very wearable and pretty, go check this out. Don’t judge the color by what you see on the tube, definitely try swatching them because you’ll be surprised at how different it looks on the tube from how it would look on your lips.
With regards to the price, I’ve always thought that you don’t have to buy expensive beauty products, but there’s nothing wrong with buying them if your budget allows it. There are so many amazing affordable products out there, but if you can and you want to buy something more high-end, then by all means go for it! 🙂
I am happy I decided to take a chance on Deauville. I have since explored the world of Rouge Coco Shines and other Chanel lipsticks – so basically Deauville was the key to opening my Chanel Pandora’s Box LOL!
